Theatre Season: Movies to Catch on the Big Screen this Summer
The Summer Movie Lineup Is Packed With Excitement

From superhero flicks and live-action remakes to mythological and sci-fi epics, here are the top movies heading to theatres this summer and why they are worth catching on the big screen.

In today’s world, you can be sure that almost any movie you are interested in seeing will come to a streaming platform soon enough. But some movies are worth catching in theatres rather than just waiting to stream at home. Plus, there’s still something fun about making an outing out of going to the movies, and summer is the best time to do it. Let’s take a look at the top flicks heading to the big screen over the next few months.

Disclosure Day (June 12)

One of the summer’s most highly anticipated releases, Disclosure Day marks Steven Spielberg’s return to large-scale science fiction. The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo in a thriller centred around a worldwide extraterrestrial disclosure event. With aliens and the UFO phenomenon enjoying quite a bit of attention lately, this movie is sure to draw some crowds.

Toy Story 5 (June 19)

One of Pixar’s most beloved franchises returns this summer with Toy Story 5, bringing audiences back together with Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang. This time, the story explores how traditional toys compete for attention in a world increasingly dominated by screens. With so much nostalgic weight behind it, it’s almost certainly going to be one of the summer’s biggest family releases.

Minions & Monsters (July 1)

The latest entry in the wildly successful Despicable Me universe sends the Minions into 1920s Hollywood for another chaotic adventure filled with slapstick comedy and over-the-top villains. Steve Carell returns as Gru alongside a voice cast that includes Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges. Minions & Monsters is shaping up to be a crowd-pleaser.

Moana (July 10)

For Moana, Disney is heading back to one of its most popular modern stories with a live-action adaptation. Newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia stars as Moana, while Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui after voicing the character in the animated original. The movie is set to bring the original ocean faring adventure to life with stunning visuals and memorable performances. It’s easily one of Disney’s most anticipated remakes in years.

The Odyssey (July 17)

Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is on track to be one of the biggest theatrical events of the year, not just of the summer. The mythological epic stars Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. Based on Homer’s legendary poem, the film follows Odysseus as he struggles to return home after the Trojan War while facing monsters, shipwrecks, gods, and impossible trials at sea.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31)

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next chapter in the popular franchise. The film follows a more isolated Peter trying to rebuild his life in a world that has forgotten his identity while he continues to protect it. Zendaya also returns as MJ, alongside Jacob Batalon as Ned. It’s the superhero movie event of the summer.

Coyote vs. Acme (August 28)

Coyote vs. Acme brings the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote to the big screen in a live-action and animation hybrid comedy starring Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. It follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for all the pain and suffering it caused him in his pursuit of the Road Runner. It’s sure to be a fun and absurd romp.
